Frequently Asked Questions:

Kentucky Mechanics Liens / Kentucky Construction Liens

What Items Can I File A Lien For?

While we cannot give legal advice online, we can inform you that most labor and materials that contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and even design professionals supply to a project are lienable items in Kentucky. Consult the Kentucky mechanic's lien statute for more information.

Where Do I File A Lien?

In Kentucky, you file a mechanic's lien in the office of the county clerk of the county in which the property is situated.

When Must I File the Lien?

There are very rigid and short time limits within which a lien must be filed.  You should either consult the Kentucky lien law at KRS Chapter 376 or consult an attorney to determine when your particular filing deadline is.

Are There Other Issues and Details?

Yes.  Several.  The short answer is that determining whether you can file a lien and when you must file it to protect your rights should be a priority.  Too many people allow their lien rights to expire because they delay too long in beginning the process.
